Prosthodontics is one of the <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">nine <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">dental specialties recognized by the <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">American Dental Association (<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">A<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">D<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">A<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">.)<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">.The ADA defines it as \u201cthe dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with <a title=\"Edentulism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edentulism\">missing or deficient teeth and\/or oral and maxillofacial tissues<\/a> using <a title=\"Biocompatibility\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Biocompatibility\">biocompatible<\/a> substitutes.<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to the American College of Prosthodontists, a prosthodontist is a dentist who:<sup id=\"cite_ref-prosthodontics.org_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Specializes in the aesthetic (cosmetic) restoration and replacement of teeth.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Receives three to four years of additional training after dental school.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Restores optimum appearance and function to your smile. The planning and restoration of <a title=\"Dental implant\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dental_implant\">implants<\/a>,treatment of <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Temporomandibular joint disorder\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Temporomandibular_joint_disorder\">temporomandibular joint disorder<\/a> (TMJ), and rehabilitation of <a title=\"Occlusion (dentistry)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Occlusion_(dentistry)\">occlusion<\/a> with prostheses all fall under the field of prosthodontics.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">A <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">Prosthodontist <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">has specialized in<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\"> offering <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">high quality dental therapy that ranges<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">\u00a0from\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">placing single crowns and bridges to performing full mouth rehabilitation due to severe loss of teeth<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">(caused by decay, periodontal problems, accidents, surgical therapy, etc ).<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Prosthodontists receive extensive training in dental esthetics and esthetic restorations during their graduate programs.
