The framework then ends up as a false tooth with one or two metal wings on the side. These metal wings are prepared to have a porous surface so that they can receive a bonding agent and then the wings are bonded to the back sides of the teeth on either side of the missing tooth. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>The non-metallic option is zirconia, a material that mimics natural teeth due to its tooth colored appearance. The single retainer cantilever design from Zirconia ceramics has shown very good esthetics and strength.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff; font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.athens-dental.com\/en\/advantages-maryland-bridge\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Advantages of a \u201c Maryland bridge \u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Minimal tooth structure needs to be removed.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Abutment teeth are not damaged. They are basically left intact.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Because of the conservative nature of the preparaton, the potential for pulpal trauma is \u00a0minimized.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Anesthesia is often unnecessary in order to prepare the teeth.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Less periodontal irritation results in comparison with \u00a0the conventional bridge<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Problems Associated with a Maryland Bridge<\/strong><\/span>\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Though it is valuable, Maryland bridge has some problems in regard to the use of metal and the \u00a0longevity of the bridge bonding.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>It is used only when one tooth is missing<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Teeth are translucent. The metal backing will cause the teeth to darken slightly, so the result is a slghtely different \u00a0color than the other front teeth. To overcome this problem we design the framework to fit at the palatal portion of the tooth.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>The false tooth is a porcelain fused to metal. This will make it lack the natural translucency and vitality that other teeth have in them. The use of zirconia that mimics the colour of natural teeth resolves this and the above problems.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>There is a tendency of the\u00a0 wings to debond, depending on the chewing forces applied on the bridge. Therefore the bridge has to be recemented every few years. The single retainer cantilever design from Zirconia ceramics has shown very good performance concerning this issue.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Several studies indicate that anterior bridges tend to have a better performance than posterior bridges.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #ff0000;\">In conclusion: <\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>T<\/strong><strong>he<\/strong><strong> Maryland bridge has been \u00a0successful and is used in dentistry for more than 30 years.
